DESIGNING FOR PERCEPTION

Bringing the brand up to the level of the work

Matra Construction had evolved into a modern general contractor, but its brand had not evolved with it. During our Uncover process, market perception research with clients and industry partners revealed a consistent gap: Matra’s work and approach felt current, while its visual identity and sales materials felt dated. The opportunity was clear. Bring the way Matra presented itself up to the level of the company it had become.
With an established logo already in place, we focused on building the visual system around it. The goal was not to reinvent Matra, but to create a more complete brand that could communicate the quality, professionalism, and ambition already present in the business. The new system would become the foundation for proposals, pitch decks, events, social content, and future marketing.

Proposal systema and pitch decks

Working from Matra’s existing logo and signature red, we developed the broader visual language the brand was missing. We introduced secondary colours, typography, imagery, layouts, and graphic treatments, then documented the complete system through comprehensive brand guidelines. From there, we translated the identity into practical sales and marketing tools, including a new RFP and proposal system, pitch materials, event and social collateral, and a strategic go to market blueprint. Each asset was designed to give Matra greater consistency while making it easier for the team to communicate the quality behind its work.

Designed to help win the work

The new system quickly moved beyond brand perception and into business development. Matra used its elevated proposal approach during its pursuit of the new Lululemon headquarters buildout, with the refreshed branding helping present the company with greater clarity, polish, and confidence. Matra was awarded the project, the largest project win in the company’s history. Feedback from the procurement team specifically recognized the strength of Matra’s branding and elevated submission. It was a major company milestone and a powerful example of what can happen when the way a contractor presents itself finally reflects the calibre of the work behind it.
