CapU Lonsdale

Capilano University wanted to create something special with its new CapU Lonsdale urban campus. The space needed its own identity while still connecting to the forested main campus. The design team bridged the two by exploring metaphorical connections between a journey through education and an adventure in the nearby forest.

The decision to integrate nature meaningfully connects the two campuses, staying true to what makes CapU unique. The different qualities of the forest experience seamlessly overlap and interact with each other, creating a layered environment that enhances connection, along with progressive and flexible learning. A flexible and adaptable design was key to maximize the potential of uses for CapU and the greater community of the Shipyards development. DIALOG implemented strategies to future proof the design from the onset in order to achieve the goal of developing a multi-functional space that was not defined by its borders.
